A veteran Haridasa and a great Hindustani Musician

A Great devotee of Shri Vishnu, enthusiast promoter of devotional literature and music of medieval India – Haridasa sahitya- and in himself a veteran Hindustani musician is visiting Mumbai, rendering his music concerts under the aegis of Shri Raghavendraswamy Mutt at Jogeshwari. You will perhaps be astonished to hear his name. He is none other than Kanakagiri Shri. Hussain Sab. His is a name reckoned in the field of Haridasa Sahitya. He is promulgating the thrills, catering the kernels and the sweet meat of the dasa sahitya that is replete with devotion towards Hari as the cosmic power head.

Son of Shri. Yamanur Sab and Smt. Honnur Bi of Kanakagiri, he was born on 5th May, 1954. A true muslim by birth, he grew as such but also leaned towards the philosophy of Haridasa – the true servants of Shri Hari of Medieval India, who propagated greater devotion towards the Sole Godhead as Vishnu, to the common man, to rouse humanity in the hearts of the people at large. Once leaned towards it, he has now been a great exponent of the philosophy, catering through his erudite lectures and the media of Hindustani music as a veteran musician. As a true muslim in his life, he has been a true human being, a great devotee of Shri. Hari perceiving Hari in Allah and Allah in Hari. He was attracted, bathed in and immersed himself into the sea of devotion to Srihari, under the guidance of his spiritual Guru Shri. Murugundu Krishnadas. He gained expertise in music under the studentship of Vidwan Shri. Devappayya Kakhandaki, a great name in Hindustani Music from Bijapur.

He has rendered his concerts in various pilgrimage centers in India as well as in London at Bharatiya Vidya peeth and Gujarati Vidya Bhavan.

Chaste Kannada that he speaks, deep knowledge in Haridasa literature and philosophy, his classical style of music rendering, creates a wonderful ambience and wins the hearts of the people who throng to his concerts.

Sri Hussain Sab has earned a great recognition in the society. Various Mutts and Gurus have recognized his service and granted awarded such as ‘Sri Vijayeendra puraskara’, ‘Gayana Gandharva’ from Mantalayam Sri Raghavendraswamy Mutt and ‘Vishwarupa National Celebration Award’, ‘Shri Narayana’, ‘Shri. Krishnanugraha’ ‘Rajayogi’, ‘Pratibhashree’, ‘Hari keertanashresta’, ‘Daasashree’, ‘Swara surabhi’ awards. To cap all, he was also recognized by the Government of Karnataka by awarding Karnataka Rajya prashasti in 1999.

Studied upto BSc.[Agri], he is serving a company catering Agrochemicals, for his livelihood. He is more involved in catering Haribhakti in the hearts of Kannada people at large.

He is the Chairman of Haridasa Seva Samiti, District representative of Karnatka Gamaka Kala Parshad, Founder member of Vijayaraaya Seva Samiti, Raichur and he has also constructed a Community hall at Chikalaparavi named as Sri Vijayaraaya kalyana Mandapa.

He has brought out albums styled, “Dasare Gati, Haridasaru kanda Gururajaru, Haridas Vani, Kori Karevevu Guru Raghavendrane, Kaayo Kaveri Ranga, Shri. Vyasaraya Gana Chandrika.

A part of his achievements are certainly owed to his family members supporting him in his endeavors. His wife Smt. Raja Bi, his three Engineer sons Sri. Sabjan Sab, Shri. Habib Sab and Shri. Kasim Sab are to share his laurels. Shri. Habib Sab is a musician and has made name in rendering Film as well as devotional songs.
